MyMusicRx-clusive: Dan + Shay Share Their Most Emotional Song with Kyra

Delivering the healing power of music with the Children’s Cancer Association

December 2, 2019

RADIO.COM has teamed up with the Children’s Cancer Association and MyMusicRX, to bring questions from kids facing cancer or other serious illnesses directly to their favorite artists. Music’s biggest stars like Keith Urban, the Jonas Brothers, Luke Combs, and more each took time to answer these amazing young people, and we’re proud to share it with you.

Via video, we link these artists with hospitalized kids for an exclusive personal response, all with the help of MyMusicRX, who for over 24 years has provided one-on-one music experiences just like this to relieve some of the stress, anxiety, and perception of pain these kids face.

Kyra’s question is for Dan + Shay, asking the award-winning duo which of their songs has the most emotional meaning to them.

“Hey Kyra, that’s a great question,” Dan Smyers answers. “We pour a lot of emotion into our songs as you can tell. A lot of songs on our last self-titled album have a lot of feeling. We really dug deep on this album.”

There’s “Speechless” which the pair wrote about their wives, seeing them walk down the aisle for the first time. The song has already won the hearts of fans around the world, and is up for Best Country Song at the 2020 GRAMMY Awards. But the hit is just one of the emotional tracks on their latest LP.

“There’s a couple songs on there. A song called ‘Keeping Score’ and a song called ‘My Side of the Fence’” he continues. “What we’re going through right now, life moves pretty fast, and we’re just trying to channel that feeling of appreciating the moment, appreciating the people that are around you, appreciating what you have. Every night when we sing those songs on stage we get choked up a little bit.”
