Morgan Wallen will balance work and home life while performing at the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards, Wednesday. The “7 Summers” star tells RADIO.COM’s Katie Neal he’s been caring for his baby son, Indigo Wilder, while preparing for the show.

“I’m actually going to see him after I get done with my interviews today. He’s a little bit over two months old. He’s starting to smile and get some strength about himself,” he said. “It’s cool watching him get older.”

Indigo was born to Wallen and his ex KT Smith. Morgan tells us the resemblance between he and his son is uncanny. “My mom actually sent me a picture of me when I was a baby the other day, making a certain face. My son was making a similar face in another picture, and he looks just like me.”

The 2020 ACM’s make history broadcasting from three iconic Nashville Country Music venues, including the Grand Ole Opry House, where Wallen will perform his single “Whisky Glasses.” He says there have been few opportunities to perform live with his band. The group canceled their last live show due to COVID-19 concerns.

“The last day we were supposed to play a show we were in Madison, Wisconsin and they canceled the show and we headed back home. We haven’t plugged our guitars in since then. It’s our first time playing together as a band at an awards show. We’re really looking forward to it.”

But Wallen has kept busy during COVID quarantine, recently tweeting about work on a future double album.

He initially kicked around the idea until committing to the large scale project. “We started off just joking about it, me and my manager. We had so many songs and the more we talked about it, the more realistic it seemed,” he said. “It just started to make sense.”

The 55TH Academy of Country Music Awards hosted by Keith Urban airs September 16, 8PM ET on CBS.
