Luke Bryan Is Disturbed That Carrie Underwood Hasn't Won CMA 'Entertainer of the Year'

Bryan is one of the 'Entertainer of the Year' nominees in this year's CMAs

The 2020 CMA Awards are not until November, but Luke Bryan has already thrown his support behind two candidates for the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.

Bryan took part in an interview with PopCulture.com and advocated for two veteran musicians who have never won the award.

"My thought is, if we go for a long period of time and Carrie Underwood never wins a CMA Entertainer of the Year, that's quite disturbing for me because she's done everything you can do to win it in my opinion — and that goes for Eric Church," Bryan said.

Both Underwood and Church have been nominated before with the former receiving nominations in 2016 and 2019 and the latter in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

The news comes just days after Garth Brooks made the announcement that he was stepping down from his nomination for the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year award.

Brooks said the decision to step down came after he saw a tweet asking why he couldn’t step aside for the next generation.

"It’s time for somebody else to hold the award and know what entertainer of the year feels like," he said at the time. Brooks has won the award seven times in his career (2019, 2017, 2016, 1998, 1997, 1992, and 1991) and said in a press conference “I’m going to enjoy it this year more than I ever have.”
